A Note From Coach Larry Parrish, Director of Junior Prep Stars Basketball School:

For more than 26 years, I have been blessed to coach some outstanding student-athletes at three Durham public high schools: Jordan, Southern, and Riverside. I have also been an instructor at other fine basketball camps including Coach Dean Smith's Carolina Basketball School. In 1976, 1 started my first basketball camp--The Southern Basketball School. Today, I focus all of my energy on the Prep Stars Basketball Camps: Junior Prep Stars, Future Prep Stars, and traditional Prep Stars. These are unique camps that offer athletes of all ages a chance to develop their skills, showcase their talents, meet new friends, have fun-and become better people.

Our coaching staff at Junior Prep Stars is a group of middle school and high school basketball coaches specially selected for their knowledge of basketball, excellent teaching skills, and integrity. Join us at Junior Prep Stars and become a better player. . . and person.

Our Methods
I believe the best way to teach basketball skills is to start with individualized instructions and progress to the team concept, 5 on 5 game. The starting point is how to shoot, dribble, pass, etc.

The next level of develpment is to teach how to intergrate one's individual skills into the team concept. The progression continues with recognition of court situations, then execution. For example, Team A gains ball possession at mid-court and Team B has failed to properly defend their goal. Now, Team A has a fast break opportunity. First requirement is the recognition of the fast break, then execution of it. If Team B is successful in defending their goal, then Team A has no fast break opportunity and should start playing 5 on 5 half-court game.

In summary, JPS has 3 objectives: (1) teach individualized skills, (2) to teach how to intergrate skills during 5 on 5 competition, and (3) to teach how to make proper decisions for game recognition and execution .
